Santiago Alcon Santiago's current work looks into how the human need for social connections shapes us, gives us a sense of identity, and how we influence individuals and groups of people around us in return. Jose Oriek & Carla Belmonte. Anextesia. Film. Music by Adrian Leeland. Anextesia is a project brought to life through music and film. It was born from a piece of music called Hypnotik, and along with the visuals both combined into a project that wanted to present how some aspects of our everyday life, e.g. media, fear, ego, obsession, taboos, etc., seem to be used to control us, in order to have a hypnotised, anaesthetised society. In such society, there seems to be little possibility of being free, of escaping this control. The idea presented here is that pushing oneself through these different aspects, once you make it, you reach another level of awareness. One becomes mutated, one becomes suddenly awakened from this state of hypnosis. www.joseoriek.com - [email protected]
Gianluca Pisano. Deo Gratias. Painting. The church is a powerful force that promote the oppression and demonisation of gay man and women under the banner of their belief, Christians who take a conservative position on homosexuality endorse the discrimination of gay people in the belief that God is against same-sex sexual activity, In my painting God itself is sending a clear message to a Franciscan Monk. Bettina Stuurman. They are all heroes - mixed media on board. ‘They are all heroes’ is an attempt to remember and thank those who fought at such cost for our rights and freedoms. They are our role models and there is no shame to admit that one needs someone to be inspired by, to admire and to live up to.Our duty is to keep on paving the way like they did, for all those coming after us, whether you are a celebrity public person or a so-called common person. Living the way we are is the right way to live. www.bettinastuurman.com - [email protected]
Joao Trindade. Painting. I love: the unbalance, the discontinuity, the rupture, the contrast, the sensorial. Represent universes from different and endless perspectives. Line after line playing like a child, shameless, egocentric and regardless of boundaries. I often try to make people engage with my work, trying to avoid indifference and therefore create in them some kind of reaction.I tend to use warmer colours that are potentially energy conveyors. www.joaotrindade.com - [email protected]
Mia Wilkinson. Painting. Mia's paintings are unapologetic, and intense, yet don't become the expected angst ridden expressionism, rather comedic as the figures are increasingly morphing out of themselves and are hilariously exposed as bizarre avatars. Confined within unsettling narratives and displaying an obvious absurd aggression and transgression, they provide a powerful yet witty statement about the way identity is performed within a media culture. www.miawilkinsonartist.com - [email protected]
