Launching during the Pride in London, the exhibition WeR at the Espacio Gallery will showcase today’s meaning of the LGBT spirit.
The exhibition includes nineteen artists from all different cultures and nationalities contributing to a really authentic representation of the diversity and fullness of the LGBT community. The exhibition wants to reach those who might find it hard to be themselves. It challenges you to believe and remember the right to be different. Representatives from the charity “Diversity of Role Models” who is also partnering with the exhibition, will be in the crowd at the Opening event and whose involvement nods to an important aspect of the exhibition - positive role modelling in the LGBT community and how to embrace your own authenticity.
The curators of the exhibition, Bettina Stuurman and Joao Trindade commented, ”We always talk about equality and whilst it may be important to have have the same rights, we really wanted to show how you must celebrate difference. We are proud of this collection which reminds us to think about the present representation of the LGBT community. We want people to leave the exhibition feeling positive, excited and remembering their own unique nature - and this is what we hope the art has captured.”
In addition to the exhibition work each artist has donated one piece of work which will be displayed on the ‘Silent Auction Wall’ during the exhibition. All money will go to charities “Diversity of Role Models” and the “17-24-30 No to hate crime campaign”, both partners of this exhibition. Supporting the Pride in London, several artists will be donating a work that will be auctioned at the London Pride’s Gala evening.
